General Course Description:

Anatomy is a course which discusses the form and function of the human body, with an understanding of the process at the cellular, tissue, organ and system levels. Included are the comparative studies of vertebrate animal systems - digestive, circulatory, excretory, respiratory, muscular, skeletal, and reproductive. It is a laboratory based science emphasising the process of scientific investigation through the study of the human body.

Course Objectives

1. To develop a science literacy through comprehensive, yet accessible lesson plans.
2. To stimulate greater interest in the structure and function of the human body, and to familarize the student with terms common to the medical or paramedical profession.
3. To help the student understand how all the systems work together to produce a coordinated working entity, and how more than one system is often affected during disease or injury.
4. To provide a channel for the use of technology.
5. To inspire students to expand their science education beyond required levels.

Student Responsibilities:
Since direct student participation is required, timeley daily attendance is very important. Work turned in late may recieve a 10% reduced grade for each day the assignment is late. A student with an excused absence may make up all work missed with a three-day cap for each day missed. An alternate assignment may be given if applicable. Students with unexcused absences will recieve zeros for missed assignments.

Hidden Valley strictly enforces the Honor Code. The intentional sharing or receiving of work or information to whiich a grade is assigned is expressly proihbited.

Make-up day for science tests and quizes will be Tuesdays (before and afterschool sessions).

Grading Policy:
The Roanoke County grading procedure will be followed:
94% - 100% = A
87% - 93% = B
