Course Description:
Biology is the study of life; therefore, understanding life and life processes depends on mastering the unifying principles and concepts applicable to all life forms. This course emphasizes the fundamental unity in the diversity of life forms. Biology presents the study of biology from simple to complex levels of organization. Basic chemistry, cell biology, and genetics precede information about life processes, homeostasis, ecosystems and environmental issues. Emphasis will be placed on scientific knowledge incorporated into common knowledge and usage in everyday life.

Course Outline:
Unity and Diversity (Characteristics of Life, Organization Through Grouping)
Genetic Continuity (Structures and Activities of the Cell Nucleus, Genetic Inheritance, Reproduction of Organisms, Evolution)
Life Processes (Cellular Processes, Homeostasis of Organisms)
Interaction and Interdependence (Behavior, Ecosystem Dynamics, Environmental Issues)

Classroom Policies:
The policies of the class mirror those found in the student code of conduct. (Respect other persons property and possessions. Display proper respect for the teacher and classmates.)

It may be necessary for the teacher and student, and/or parents, to communicate via e-mail.
